Illinois State University has established a student internship program in Washington D.C. Opportunities for participation exist for students from all academic majors and both the Undergraduate and Graduate levels. For more information, contact Kara Snyder (kepool@IllinoisState.edu).
The purpose of this program is to enhance the educational experiences of selected ISU students by providing them with the opportunity to work in Washington D.C. for an entire semester or summer. Possible placements are with members of the Illinois congressional delegation on Capitol Hill, with federal agencies, or professional organizations associated with their field of study or interest.
The key to successfully finding an internship in Washington is to start early. Popular internships such as the White House, the CIA, the State Department and the FBI have application deadlines up to nine months in advance. And remember that applying for an internship is much like applying for college — assuming you will get the only internship you apply for might leave you scrambling at the last minute if you are not accepted. Applying to a few different kinds of internships that interest you will give you some options.
