Campus Message - Partial Government Shutdown
October 01, 2025
Dear members of the Redbird community,
As you may know, the federal government has entered a shutdown due to the absence of an approved budget. Many federally funded programs—such as research grants, cooperative agreements, and TRIO programs—are considered discretionary spending and may experience temporary disruptions in federal funding, notification of new awards, review of proposals, or other communication.
At this time, Illinois State University remains committed to continuing operations as usual. Our top priority is to ensure stability for our students, faculty, and staff, and to minimize any interruptions to teaching, research, and service activities. Student financial aid, such as Pell grants, loans, and work-study, will continue. Federal service delays, such as FASFA processing, are possible.
We will cover expenses for federally funded operations for the next thirty days while we continue to monitor developments closely. As the situation evolves, we will reassess and make any necessary adjustments to ensure continuity and responsible stewardship of resources.
Future communications will be directed toward principal investigators (PIs) and other affected program personnel and will provide specific guidance, should additional actions become necessary.
Thank you for your patience and professionalism as we navigate this period of uncertainty. We will continue to provide timely updates as more information becomes available.
Sincerely,
Ani Yazedjian, Ph.D.
Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
Dr. Glen Nelson, Ph.D.
Vice President for Finance and Planning, Chief Financial Officer
